Many people who've never received Chiropractic care aren't sure what to expect on their first visit. We've broken it down below to help take the guesswork out of it and help you feel more comfortable and prepared to make an appointment.
What can I expect during my first appointment?
You will learn about us, about Chiropractic and how we practice it, and about our experience and beliefs regarding health healing and Wellness. We will learn lots about your history: previous trauma, your work, family, lifestyle; all the factors that have brought you to where you are. There will be a physical exam, including posture assessment, spinal palpation and if necessary, x-ray examination.
Doctor Given will compare and evaluate all of this information before your next visit and be able to share detail, insight and hopefully solutions with you then.
How will this initial assessment be beneficial to the client & Dr. Given?
By the end of this visit you will understand more about what is causing your problem, why it hasn't just gone away, why the medications and other interventions have not resolved it.
You will have met and know more about us and hopefully leave the office with some hope and direction.
The benefit to us? Dr. Given will have detailed information about you and your spine, where you have come from, where you are now, and where you are going and will be able to formulate a plan to help you get to where you want to be.
Will I receive a diagnosis or treatment during the first visit?
Generally there is no diagnosis or treatment on the first visit as this appointment is focused on examination, information and fact-finding. Time is required to read X-rays, compare history and examination findings to arrive at diagnosis and treatment plan which is addressed on the second visit. The exception is in the case of patients with acute severe pain. We accelerate the process to get them moving into relief quickly.
How will things move forward after the first assessment?
By the second visit there will be clear insight into cause and solution. Spinal adjustment will be discussed and offered, and, assuming the patient is willing, procedure, equipment and process explained and the first gentle spinal adjustment performed.
Is there anything else I should know before coming to my appointment?
Before we ever even meet, we believe it's important to understand that our practice is different, the technique we use is gentle and very specific, the adjusting equipment is the finest available in the profession. But most importantly our practice is not acute care pain and strain oriented - definitely not a physiotherapy amalgam.
Our goal is to detect the underlying structural cause and achieve long-term spinal correction. We want to see our patients not only feel better but be better, not just now but in the future.
